Society news and announcements
....We have been asked by an interested citizen if the Society can, and/or wishes to, offer help with an archaeological examination of the site of The Brindle Workhouse. The workhouse was in operation from the early 1700s to 1871, when it was made redundant by the opening of the Chorley Workhouse. There is a brief note about it here. 3 committee members have visited the site and will be reporting to the full committee in the near future.
....Our Chairman, Gaynor Wood, a lecturer in archaeology at UCLAN, has been involved in some experimental archaeology in tile-firing at Norton Priory. Details of the work are here! The results will also be published here as and when the students do the write-up.
....The Bibliography of our President BJN Edwards is now on line here.
....Following approval and adoption at the AGM on 20th February 2009, the new Society Constitution is available for inspection here
